The short version: the famous do not spread evenly across Mallorca. They cluster in a handful of places, and each choice says something about the area: the Serra de Tramuntana for seclusion, Port d’Andratx and Camp de Mar for harbor views and privacy, Puerto Portals and Son Vida for marinas with Palma fifteen minutes away, and Palma itself for the royal summer residence. This guide goes area by area. Every name has been reported by at least two established news outlets, and there are no addresses: what we share is what each place tells you, not where anyone sleeps.
Why the famous keep choosing Mallorca
Mallorca combines an international airport on the edge of the capital, marinas that take the largest yachts afloat, a mountain range listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage cultural landscape, and villages where life carries on regardless of who sits at the next table.
What we see first-hand, working on the island every week, follows a pattern. Superyachts anchor off Puerto Portals and Port Adriano all summer. Well-known faces turn up at restaurants in Palma and Deià, and the staff treat them like any other guest. Private celebrations in villas and hotels reach us through the sector, and that is where they stay: discretion is part of the island’s appeal, and part of ours.
Valldemossa, Deià and the Serra: seclusion with history
The British poet Robert Graves moved to Mallorca in 1929, settled in Deià and built the house where he lived for almost half a century; it is now a museum run by the Fundació Robert Graves (Ultima Hora, December 2003).
Michael Douglas is the name most associated with the Serra today. He bought S’Estaca, between Valldemossa and Deià, in 1990 (Hello magazine, 2023; Ultima Hora, September 2025; Majorca Daily Bulletin, May 2026), and calls Mallorca his second home. According to Ultima Hora and the Bulletin, he celebrated his 80th birthday at Valldemossa’s tribute to its older residents, seated among his neighbors.
Further along the coast, Richard Branson’s story with Son Bunyola, near Banyalbufar, is a lesson in patience: he sold the estate in 2002 after failing to obtain permission for a hotel, bought it back in 2015 (Mallorca Magazin, December 2015; Ultima Hora, September 2025), and it now operates as a Virgin Limited Edition hotel (Ultima Hora, May 2023; Forbes Brasil, February 2024). Andrew Lloyd Webber bought a house in Deià in 2003 (Majorca Daily Bulletin, July 2003) and celebrated his 60th birthday in the village in 2008 (Mallorca Magazin, March 2008). Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez have spent summers in the Tramuntana, in 2022 (Ultima Hora) and 2025 (beIN Sports; Hola).
What it says about the area: very few houses, and when one comes up for sale it rarely lasts. The road to Palma takes around forty minutes of mountain curves, which is exactly why people who want to be left alone choose it. Sóller, across the range, is the exception: a working town with a market, a school and life all year.
Port d’Andratx and Camp de Mar: harbor views and serious privacy
In the far south-west, Port d’Andratx is the harbor many consider the most exclusive on the island: villas climbing the hillsides above the water, yachts in the bay, and the airport a long drive away. Camp de Mar, next door, is smaller and quieter still. Claudia Schiffer kept a family home in Camp de Mar for years and sold it in 2017 (Majorca Daily Bulletin and Mallorca Magazin, May 2017). In July 2026, Michael Jordan’s yacht cruised this coast and was seen off Andratx before heading to Ibiza (Mallorca Magazin and Majorca Daily Bulletin, July 2026).
What it says about the area: the buyers we meet here want the Mallorca they have seen in magazines, with security, sea views and a harbor below. Others are families who live here all year for the international schools in Calvià.
Puerto Portals, Bendinat and Son Vida: Palma in fifteen minutes
Puerto Portals is where the summer’s biggest yachts drop anchor, and the press follows them. Michael Jordan first stopped on the island in 2017 during a private Mediterranean cruise (Mallorca Magazin and Majorca Daily Bulletin, June 2017); in July 2026 his superyacht anchored off Puerto Portals with his family on board (Majorca Daily Bulletin and Mallorca Magazin, July 2026). In June 2025, Michelle Obama had lunch in Puerto Portals with her daughters Malia and Sasha (Hola USA; Menorca Es Diari) and ended her stay with a day on Steven Spielberg’s yacht, with the director and his wife on board (Mallorca Magazin; Forbes España).
Nearby, in the municipality of Calvià, Jürgen Klopp bought a house in Santa Ponça in 2022 (Mallorca Magazin, June 2022; Majorca Daily Bulletin, May 2024).
What it says about the area: this is the part of the island for people who want everything close. Palma is fifteen minutes away, international schools are next door and golf courses surround it. Son Vida, above the city, adds villas in a guarded residential estate with golf on the doorstep.
Palma and Marivent: where royalty and presidents come to lunch
Palma has received heads of state for decades because of Marivent, the cliff-top palace the Spanish royal family uses as its summer residence. On August 8, 2010, Michelle Obama and her daughter Sasha had lunch there with King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofía, at the end of a private visit to Spain (Associated Press, via The Christian Science Monitor and Fox News).
In June 2024, Michael Jordan had lunch with his family in Portixol, the old fishermen’s quarter on Palma’s seafront, before returning to his yacht (Ultima Hora, Majorca Daily Bulletin and Mallorca Magazin, June 2024). In early September 2026, LeBron James was photographed playing golf at Son Muntaner, on the edge of the city (COPE Mallorca and Majorca Daily Bulletin, September 2026).
What it says about the area: Palma is a real capital, with an old town of restored palaces and patios, Santa Catalina for restaurants and its market, and Portixol and El Molinar for a seafront walk into the center. Celebrities come to Palma for lunch; most sleep elsewhere.
Manacor and Portocristo: Rafa Nadal’s home ground
On the east coast, the most famous Mallorcan of all never left. Rafa Nadal was born in Manacor and opened the Rafa Nadal Academy there in 2016. His family home is in Portocristo, the coastal village where he spent his childhood, fifteen minutes from Manacor (Majorca Daily Bulletin, September 2023; The Objective, October 2024).
Pollença and Formentor: the north that writers found first
Agatha Christie spent part of the summer of 1932 at Port de Pollença and set a short story there, Problem at Pollensa Bay, first published in 1935 (Ara Balears, 2026; Mallorca Magazin, 2020). The bay keeps that unhurried feel: Pollença is one of the most beautiful towns in the north, the British have been coming for decades and the Formentor peninsula is next door. The trade-off is distance, about an hour from Palma and the airport, which matters if you plan on living here all year.
The south-east: quieter by design
The south-east, where we work every day, has its own chapter. The singer-songwriter Joan Manuel Serrat spent long periods in Cala d’Or, and part of Mediterráneo, his landmark 1971 album, was written there in 1970, between stays in Calella de Palafrugell and Fuenterrabía (Diario de León, interview of December 2018; Universidad Miguel Hernández).
Beyond that, the south-east is simply less photographed, and that is the point. There is no superyacht marina on the scale of Puerto Portals; the coast is a chain of small coves, Mondragó, Llombards, Es Carbó, plus the long beach of Es Trenc; and Santanyí, Ses Salines and Campos are villages lived in all year, not built around visitors. Buyers here usually want what well-known people want: space, silence, a country house with land ten minutes from the sea, and nobody paying attention.
Regattas, a tennis academy and film sets
Some visitors come for events. The Copa del Rey MAPFRE, organized by the Real Club Náutico de Palma since 1982, filled the Bay of Palma from August 1 to 8, 2026 for its 44th edition, with King Felipe sailing aboard Hispania and presenting the trophies at the Almudaina Palace (official regatta website; Ultima Hora).
The island is also a film set. Cloud Atlas was shot here in 2011 with Tom Hanks and Halle Berry, with Port de Sóller as the main location (Mallorca Magazin, 2011; Majorca Daily Bulletin, 2013). The BBC series The Mallorca Files began filming on the island in 2018 and started its third season in Palma in March 2023 (Ultima Hora; Majorca Daily Bulletin).
