There are places in Mallorca where the Mediterranean stops being a backdrop and becomes a way of life. Cala Figuera is one of them. Often called the “Venice of Mallorca,” this extraordinary fishing village wraps around a series of narrow, sheltered inlets where traditional wooden fishing boats — llaüts — still bob quietly in front of whitewashed stone houses. It’s a place of rare authenticity in an island that has seen so much change, and living here means waking up every morning to one of the most beautiful coastal scenes in the entire Balearics.

This long-term rental is a rare opportunity to make that dream a reality. A 44 m² casita with a genuine loft character, one bedroom, one bathroom, and a sea-view terrace that will genuinely stop you in your tracks. Small in footprint, enormous in soul.

Design and Interiors: Honest, Timeless Materials

This is not a generic vacation rental dressed up with IKEA furniture and laminate flooring. The property’s open-plan loft layout — unusual for the area — creates a sense of space that goes well beyond what 44 m² might suggest. Traditional Mallorcan floor tiles, lime-washed walls, and generous ceiling height give the interiors a warmth and character that you feel the moment you walk through the door.

The property is offered unfurnished, which is genuinely good news for anyone who wants to create something personal rather than move into someone else’s aesthetic. With a space this distinctive — the architecture, the textures, the light — the right furniture and décor choices can turn it into something truly exceptional. The layout includes a combined living and kitchen area, one bedroom, a full bathroom, a coladuría (a traditional Mallorcan laundry room), and a storage room. Air conditioning keeps things comfortable year-round.

The Terrace: Your Front-Row Seat to the Mediterranean

If there’s one feature that sets this property apart, it’s the terrace. Oriented toward the sea, it functions as a second living room open to the sky — a place for morning coffee with a view of the water, for long lunches in the shade, or for watching the last light of the day fade over the cove. A private balcony adds another outdoor vantage point, reinforcing the sense of constant connection between the interior spaces and the remarkable landscape outside.

In a location like this, sea views aren’t a bonus — they’re the whole point.

Life in Cala Figuera and Southeast Mallorca

Cala Figuera itself is walkable and relaxed. The harbor restaurants serve the freshest seafood on the island, and evenings tend to unfold slowly, the way they should. The weekly market in nearby Santanyí — a handsome stone town just a short drive away — is one of the best in southern Mallorca: local produce, artisan goods, fresh flowers, and a social buzz that feels genuinely Mallorcan rather than tourist-facing.

The beaches within easy reach are sensational. Cala Mondragó, set within a protected natural park, offers crystal-clear water and well-preserved natural surroundings with manageable crowds even in summer. Cala Llombards is smaller, more secluded, and ideal for a quiet afternoon with a book and a swim. Cala d’Or, a short drive north, provides a marina, a wider range of restaurants, and a more active social scene for days when you want something livelier.

Palma Airport is approximately 60 kilometers away via the Ma-19 highway — convenient for weekend arrivals and easy access to the rest of the island.

Contact Villas y Fincas Mallorca today to arrange a viewing. Some properties are best understood in person, and this is absolutely one of them.

—

What makes Cala Figuera different from other coastal villages in southeast Mallorca?

Cala Figuera retains a working fishing village character that most coastal towns in Mallorca have long since lost. The harbor remains active, the community is year-round, and the pace of life is genuinely unhurried. It’s one of the last places on the island where you can feel authentically connected to the sea without the noise of mass tourism.

Which beaches are closest to this property?

Cala Mondragó and its protected natural park beaches are less than 10 minutes by car. Cala Llombards is similarly close and offers a more secluded experience. For more amenities and a livelier atmosphere, Cala d’Or is around 15 minutes north.

What are the advantages of renting an unfurnished property?

Renting unfurnished gives you the freedom to design your space exactly as you want it. In a property with this much architectural character — the loft layout, the traditional tiles, the light — bringing your own furniture means the result can be something genuinely personal and beautiful rather than a standard rental interior.

What amenities are available in Santanyí town?

Santanyí has everything you need for comfortable daily life: supermarkets, pharmacies, medical facilities, schools, banks, and a wide range of local restaurants and independent shops. Its weekly market is a highlight of the region and worth building your week around.

Is this area suitable for year-round living?

Absolutely. Southeast Mallorca enjoys a mild climate with warm winters and excellent sunshine hours. Cala Figuera has a stable year-round community, and the surrounding area offers all necessary services. For those seeking a quiet, nature-rich base that comes alive in summer but remains genuinely pleasant in winter, this corner of the island is hard to beat.

Legal Notice / Consumer Information There are places in Mallorca where the Mediterranean stops being a backdrop and becomes a way of life.
